The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) on Coastal’s campus gives back to their community by raising money for students and adults with disabilities. CEC currently has 40 members. Members of CEC enjoy going out into the community and spending time with individuals with disabilities and fundraising. Last year CEC participated at the Polar Plunge in Myrtle Beach and raised over $2000 for the SC Special Olympics. Other sponsored events included Special Needs Aynor Family Fun Day, a golf tournament at Quail Creek to raise money for the SC Special Olympics, the Thanksgiving Feast at Loris High School, Read across America, Sweetheart Dance at Loris High School, and a bake sale. CEC’s first event for the semester will be volunteering at the Aynor Family Fun Day on October 8th. CEC meetings are on the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. in KH 108. Students interested in joining CEC can contact Rebecca Ringrose at rcringro@g.coastal.edu.
